Players will be expected to come ready to work hard and have the ability to focus through a 60 minute session. By participating in Intermediate Skills, players will begin to create a strong basketball foundation.
Players interested in this program will be looking for development in all aspects of the game. Intermediate Skills is a step below our Academy program. Players aspiring to play at the highest levels of basketball are able to use this program to help bridge the gap that may currently exist. This program is also a great fit for young players who are not yet looking for the intense level of our Academy training, but rather are looking to still improve their overall game.
Requirement – Players will be grouped according to age and grade level. Players will be evaluated and can be moved up or down a level by Erica Kennedy or Ian Coultas.

Elite Academy Program: Boys Grades 7-11, Girls Grades 7-11
September 12 – May 26 $800 (HST Included)
This year long program will be fully dedicated to skill development. Athletes will train twice a week in one 60-minute session and one 90-minute session. These sessions will be run at very high levels and all athletes participating will be expected to come prepared and focused. The drills and skills taught in these sessions will be like nothing else offered in Newfoundland to date. This is not your average basketball training! There are no games in this program, only skills training. Athletes will be treated like the elite athletes they aspire to be. Players registering for this program are expected to have a basic foundation of basketball skills. Players need to bring a good work ethic and MAX Basketball Academy will do the rest.
Here is your chance to work with one of the best teachers in the game. Erica Kennedy brings over 20 years of basketball experience to the Academy program. The entire basis of Erica’s programming is instilling athletes with the belief that they can accomplish great things through hard work. Her dream has always been to be around the game of basketball and through her determination she has been able to work and play at every level of basketball. From her time as a Varsity athlete to her work experience in the NBA and WNBA, Erica began to form a belief that she could bring equivalent styles of programming home to Newfoundland players. Now, a decade after beginning her program, Erica Kennedy and coach Ian Coultas have revamped the entire Academy program to once again lead the pack in elite basketball training.
Over the last 10 years basketball in St. John’s and surrounding areas has seen many changes. Today many athletes have lots of opportunities to play basketball; however, the problem now is that there are not many avenues for players to TRAIN. The newly designed Academy program will fill this void for athletes aspiring to take their game to the highest levels possible.
Erica and Ian are currently the Head Coaching staff for the 2013 Men’s Canada Games basketball program. They know what basketball players need to compete at the highest levels because they are coaching these athletes right now! This, along with almost two decades of local, national and international experience makes MAX Basketball Academy the program to be a part of.
New Concept – Team Option:
This is an extra component outside the skills program. It will have an additional cost to players interested in the team atmosphere.
Interested players will have an option to play on these teams as they are put together. We will pull together teams out of our pods for interested players throughout the basketball season. Players can choose if a team program fits their family schedule. Some examples of times we will run teams are:
Winter Team Program – at the end of December we will look to do a few weeks of training with interested players for club provincials in February. If we win clubs, we will bring any players interested in attending clubs together for a few weeks in June to travel to Eastern Canadians. These players will be from the February championships only.
Spring Team Program– in early spring we will look to take a travel team to an off island tournament. The concept will be the same regarding the number of teams and the interest. A team such as this would train for a couple of weeks.
NOTE: If we have 10 kids interested we will have one team, if we have 20 kids we will have “A” and “B” teams, and so on.
