Showcase
MAX Dance is delighted to offer an exciting performance experience through its year end showcase.
The showcase offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of a year’s hard work, dedication, and progress.
A big part of the dance training process includes learning through performance. This experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. Although performance opportunities can help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they also contribute to children’s success in non-dance activities. Research shows that onstage experience can result in better in-school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps the children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best end result.
We know from feedback we have received, that parents really appreciate many aspects of our shows that may differ from other dance recital experiences.
- We do not ask the parents to buy expensive costumes. We have invested in a large costume bank of quality costumes that we lend to the students. The parents pay a $10 per costume maintenance fee which covers the costs associated with the organization and assignment of costumes, storage, maintenance, cleaning and replenishment of costumes.
- Our youngest children (3-5) only perform in one show, do not do a dress rehearsal, just a low stress practice on stage. These children are allowed to leave at Intermission. We are also conscious of how many shows our next age group (6-9) perform in. We again keep the length of the performance appropriate to their age.
- We try to keep our performances to under 2 hours. Our show times are 1:00pm and 6:00pm.
- We present a variety of age appropriate dance styles and music which really is enjoyable for all.
- We use Holy Heart Theatre, which allows us to use dates favourable to our families and students. Our shows are towards the end of May, not during exams or family holidays and our performances take place on weekends. We do not ask the children to miss any school.
