Karate Class Descriptions

Beginner/Little Dragons (Ages 4-6)

For the youngest martial artist, our Dragons program introduces children to the basic concepts of martial arts. Students are taught the ABCs (Agility, Balance, and Coordination) of movement essential for all sports, in a fun yet structured environment. Important life skills, such as listening, goal-setting, and situational awareness are also introduced. Emphasis is placed on learning and enjoyment, rather than competition.

Junior Karate (Ages 7-9)

This pre-teen program is designed to introduce children to the mental aspects of martial arts, as well as continuing the physical aspects of training. Through our “3 C” curriculum (Concentration, Confidence, and Control-of-Self), students learn about their own strengths and weaknesses and how to make the most of them. Junior Karate students practice drills designed for competition, are taught basic strategies for attack and defense “in the ring”, and are assessed for their interest and ability in the advanced programs. Students also begin learning physical self-defense techniques as their size and maturity levels increase.

Youth Karate (Ages 10-15)

At this crucial stage in youth development, special attention is paid to developing positive, realistic self-imaging, and personal discipline. This program is for students who wish to learn Karate simply for the benefits it can bring as well as for those students who wish to become competitive athletes. In this program, more physically involved self-defense is introduced, in addition to advanced conditioning drills as the student grows physically and mentally.

Adult Kenpo (Ages 16+)

Whether it’s fitness, self-defence, sport karate or simply an interest in traditional martial arts, this program is the one for you! Continuing in the Kenpo way of bringing together the best practices of different Martial Arts we have drawn from the variety of Martial Arts our instructors have trained in to develop this program. Students are taught techniques from Karate, Kickboxing, Jiu-jitsu, Kung Fu, Judo, Krav Maga, Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, etc. and as such become well rounded Martial Artists who are capable of defending themselves confidently in any situation.
