Welcome to STEAM by MAX!

MAX is incredibly excited to be the first organization to bring a year-round, progressive STEAM program to our community! STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Without realizing it, children engage with STEAM concepts every day. Natural explorers and experimenters, they are drawn to figuring out how things work and learning to do things for themselves. That innate tendency towards discovery is the very reason why children absolutely love taking part in STEAM programming. While we adults realize they’re gaining valuable knowledge and skills, to them it’s pure hands-on fun. And perhaps they’ll even discover a lifelong passion!

Thanks to our franchise agreement with US-based company STEM for Kids®, we are able to offer hundreds of hours of unique learning developed by experts in both their subject manner and in creating fun, age-appropriate lesson plans. This incredible volume of material means we’ll be offering lots of options throughout the year, and your child will never get bored or have to repeat a module – unless they want to of course! The curriculum is progressive, meaning as children learn foundational concepts, they’ll have the opportunity to continue to build and go deeper into particular subject areas.

Elevators and Eggs and Robots, Oh My!

Registration for our second Fall 2019 course is now open! Give your child a hands-on introduction to a variety of STEAM topics with a focus on fun and creativity. STEAM 101 is an introductory level program, covering:

  • Simple Machines – Create an Elevator! Kids will be tackling pulley systems to create working mini elevators. Your child will learn how to problem solve and think like an engineer.
  • Energy Transfer – Drop an Egg! Demonstrated with jaw-dropping (and yes, messy!) egg drops, your child will test the flow of energy. Planning and testing your design is critical as kids adjust conditions for different results.
  • Robotics – Build a Robot! Your child will be introduced to the fundamentals of computer programming and get to build and learn using LEGO robotics kits.
  • Chemistry – Squeeze some Slime! Your child will have a blast with simple chemistry experiments. Expect a crowd favorite – slime!
  • Electricity – Power up a Potato! This week is all about potato power as your kid will discover how electricity flows by making their own potato battery.

Date: 6 weeks/1 session per week running from November 9th through December 18th
